Sparks currently resides in San Francisco and is the Founding Executive Director of Queer Leaders in Philanthropy (QLP), an organization which seeks to change the culture of philanthropy to be more empowering of LGBTQ individuals and to better address LGBTQ needs by building community, inspiring leadership, as well as promoting access and inclusion. Sparks has the privilege of serving as a Trustee on the board of her family’s foundation in Washington State and has eight years of experience as a Program Officer at United Way of the Bay Area and Stuart Foundation in San Francisco. Previous to entering philanthropy, Sparks worked in clinical social work settings, including administering prevention programming to foster care youth in Queens, NY, and counseling children of chronic substance abusers in Harlem. She currently sits on the Board of Directors at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, is an Advisory Board Member for Horizons Foundation, and Co-Chairs HYPE (a giving circle of young, Bay-Area, LGBTQ-identified emerging leaders). Sparks holds a BA in Psychology and Art History from Vassar College, an MA in Photography from New York University, and an MSW from University of California at Berkeley.
