Marjorie Beale is Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives in Dornsife College at the University of Southern California, where she secures funding for projects related to the quantitative natural and social sciences as part of USC’s US$6 billion campaign. Previously, she served as the lead fundraiser for the natural sciences at the University of California, Irvine, where she raised over US$110 million over a twelve-year period for research projects spanning a range of academic disciplines. In an earlier career, she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in modern European history at UC Irvine, Rutgers, Berkeley, and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, and published The Modernist Enterprise with Stanford University Press in 1999. She holds a BA summa cum laude from Harvard, and an MA and PhD from UC Berkeley in modern European History. A mezzo-soprano, Marjorie has a longstanding interest in the arts, and has served as a board member for Long Beach Opera, the ARCS Foundation, and the Orange County Women’s Chorus.
