Bill serves as general counsel at Nixon Peabody for companies ranging from very early stage ventures to publicly traded corporations with international operations. He also represents hedge fund managers, broker-dealers and investment advisers on regulatory compliance matters and advises fund managers and institutional investors regarding the organization and structure of hedge funds and other alternative investment vehicles. Having worked with venture capitalists and venture-backed companies for his entire career, he continues to devote a substantial part of his time to companies that are developing innovative technologies, most recently in the information management and the clean energy and clean water sectors. His clients have included a number of drug discovery companies, an audio equipment manufacturer, several alternative energy companies, and developers and manufacturers of medical devices. He typically works with companies that do not have in-house general counsel, so he advises his clients’ senior management and boards of directors as well as coordinating a team of lawyers from Nixon Peabody serving all of their legal needs. Bill has, since its inception, served on the NVCA Model Document Working Group, a national committee of leading venture capital attorneys which, under the auspices of the National Venture Capital Association, has developed a set of venture investment model documents. Bill is a trustee of La Salle University, a trustee emeritus and honorary trustee of the Institute of Contemporary Art, and an overseer of Speakeasy Stage Company. He is also a former director of the AIDS Action Committee and a former overseer of the Boston Lyric Opera. He holds a JD from Harvard Law School, as well as an AM from Harvard University, an MA from the University of the East Manila and an AB, summa cum laude, from La Salle University. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, District of Columbia, Maryland and in front of the U.S. Tax Court.
